Year 2

Welcome from the Year Two team!

The teachers are Mrs Steer (Year Lead) Mrs Gold and Mrs McGhie and Miss Walker.  They are supported by Ms Barber, Mrs Barnes, Mrs Molla, Miss Harmer and Mrs Parr-Rapley.

In Year 2, we encourage your children to develop their independence by taking greater responsibility for their learning.  This prepares them to be life long learners.  Independence and resilience are recognised and celebrated.

During the year, the children will build on their previous learning and develop new skills through a creative and broad curriculum. Skills are taught through a range of themes and topics such as 'Twisted Tales' and 'Knights & Castles'.

During the year, we extend our learning beyond the classroom environment and will be visiting various places of interest linked to our topics.

The children have opportunities to enhance their learning in our outside environment where they are provided with a wide range of resources to engage their interest and reinforce their learning within the classroom.

In the Autumn term, your child will bring home a Read Write Inc book and you will receive a link to an online text every week.  These link to the text they are reading in class. We encourage all our children to read these books more than once over the week to promote understanding and comprehension skills. They will also have the opportunity to bring home a 'pleasure for reading' book and these are for the children to enjoy with their grown up. As the children progress through our RWInc scheme, they may become 'free readers' where they will be supported in choosing their own texts for reading.

We are very happy to see you about any questions or concerns you may have at any time during the year. Please feel free to either talk to us at the end of the day or make an appointment if you would like to talk in more detail.
